In this engaging 18-lesson unit, you’ll dive into:
- Fundamentals of Robotics: Understand how robots can be used as a prototype to explore autonomous vehicles using programming and sensors.
- Autonomous Vehicles: Explore how the features of self-driving buses can enhance school transportation safety.
- Artificial Intelligence: Discover the potential of AI in making our journeys safer.
- Project-Based Learning: Collaborate with your peers to tackle real-world challenges faced by school districts using the Engineering Design Process.

3 lessons/sessionsÂ
Students begin their journey by exploring what it means to think and act like an innovator. Through engaging activities, they examine how technology can be leveraged to solve real-world problems at both local and global levels, with a focus on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Students develop essential habits of mind by learning how to document ideas, reflect on their thinking, and collaborate effectively. This unit lays the groundwork for leadership, problem-solving, innovative technology, and purposeful design.Â

15 lessons/sessions
In the final unit, students work in teams to explore the intersection of robotics, autonomous vehicles, and artificial intelligence to improve the safety of school bus transportation. Through hands-on investigation and collaborative problem-solving, teams design and test innovative solutions to a challenge faced by school districts and communities nationwide. Students deepen their understanding of how emerging technologies function and how they can be applied to enhance safety and efficiency. This unit emphasizes inquiry, iteration, and real-world application while exposing students to high-demand, future-focused careers in robotics and AI. The unit culminates in team presentations where students pitch their designs, simulating real-world entrepreneurial experiences.
